The 90s sweatshirt has had a complicated few years. Brands noticed the nostalgia, flooded the market with watered down versions, and made it briefly hard to find the real thing without sifting through a lot of noise. But the real thing is worth finding. A heavyweight fleece back cotton crew with a slightly boxy cut and a collar that holds its shape sits differently on the body than anything made recently, and it works across more of a wardrobe than most men expect. Over a plain tee with wide leg trousers it looks considered. Under an overshirt it adds the right kind of bulk. These are not pieces that are trying to look vintage. They either are, or they are made with enough respect for the original that the difference barely matters. We have been through the reissues, the deadstock finds, and the contemporary labels doing it properly. What is here is the version worth actually owning.
