There is a version of the mesh trainer that belongs in a gym bag and nowhere else. Poor construction, a silhouette that collapses after six weeks, and that particular shade of white that turns grey before you’ve really broken them in. We have no interest in those. What we are interested in is the mesh trainer done properly, where the upper actually breathes without looking flimsy, where the sole has enough structure to hold its shape through a full day on your feet, and where the overall profile is clean enough to wear with tailored trousers or a decent pair of shorts without making the outfit look like an afterthought. Mesh done well sits in a useful middle ground between the chunky and the minimal. It reads as considered rather than just convenient. We have been through a lot of options to find the ones that hold up past the first impression. These are the trainers that earn their place outside the gym.
