Most men reach for a scarf when it’s cold and only when it’s cold. Cotton scarves work differently. They’re for the in between days, the summer evenings that cool off faster than expected, the trip somewhere warm where a wool scarf would be absurd but you still want something to throw over a linen shirt. The problem is that most cotton scarves look cheap. The weave is too loose, the ends fray within a month, or the print is doing too much to distract from how little thought went into the construction. What we’ve been looking for are scarves where the fabric has real body, the edges are properly finished, and the pattern or colour actually rewards a closer look. Nothing that shouts. Everything that adds. A well chosen cotton scarf is one of the easiest ways to finish an outfit without it looking like you tried particularly hard to finish an outfit. These are the ones that earn the fold.
