The fisherman beanie is one of those pieces that either looks considered or looks like an afterthought, and the difference comes down almost entirely to proportion and fabric. Wear one that’s too tall, too loose, or made from acrylic that pills after three wears, and you’ve just made every outfit underneath it worse. Get it right and it’s the easiest thing you own. We’ve been particularly interested in shorter, close fitting styles that sit above the ears without looking like they belong on a building site, made from wool that actually holds its shape across a full winter of use. Colour matters too. Navy, off white, and charcoal do the most work across the widest range of coats and jackets. We’re not interested in beanies that only function when it’s freezing. The best ones look right on a grey October morning as much as a January one. These are the ones that meet that standard.
