Brown is the colour that does the most quiet work in a winter wardrobe and nowhere is that more obvious than with a scarf. Navy and grey scarves get worn with everything by default. Brown gets chosen. There is a difference. When you reach for a brown scarf it is because something in the outfit calls for warmth, for earth tones, for a bit of depth that the cooler colours cannot provide. A camel coat needs one. Tan boots almost ask for one. Even a dark navy outfit can be grounded by a well chosen brown rather than pulled further into the cold end of the palette. We have been through a lot of options across wool, cashmere and blended constructions and the ones that keep surfacing are the ones where the shade has been thought about properly. Not just brown, but the right brown. Texture matters too. These are the scarves we find ourselves recommending without being asked.
